Machine Wreckers are an ambient post-psychedelic band from Heretaunga Hawke’s Bay, creating immersive instrumental music that drifts between repetition, atmosphere, noise, and nature. Drawing inspiration from nature’s oscillations, the band weave hypnotic sonic landscapes that feel both organic and otherworldly.

Machine Wreckers are: Alec Withers (Drums), Adrian Thornton (Bass), Willie Devine (Keys), Kurt Yates (Guitar).
Blending analogue textures, experimental improvisation, and dreamlike compositions, Machine Wreckers craft sprawling sonic environments that sit somewhere between dream-state meditation and psychedelic ritual. Their work often expands beyond music into visual art, projection, and multimedia performance, creating deeply transportive spaces for audiences to disappear into.
Described as “an assembly of the most disparate group of musicians” by member Adrian Thornton on RNZ, the band’s evolving sound moves fluidly through ambient, kosmische, psychedelic prog, drone, and experimental post-rock territory while remaining unmistakably rooted in the landscapes and stories of Aotearoa. Part ambient exploration, part cosmic soundtrack, part environmental conversation — Machine Wreckers exist in the space between noise and stillness.
