Te Tokotoru return to their roots in the mighty Hawke\u2019s Bay for a midwinter throw-down! They’re taking over the legendary Paisley Stage for a winter session of kauri swamp rock m\u014d te hunga e m\u014dhio ana! Nau mai, nau mai – kia rongo i te kaha!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Te Tokotoru is a dynamic M\u0101ori hard rock power trio from Aotearoa, delivering high-energy performances infused with cultural depth. The band features Arahi on guitar and vocals, William Devine on bass and backing vocals, and Iraia Whakamoe on drums. Their music, described as \u201cswamp kauri rock,\u201d seamlessly blends thunderous grooves with an electric M\u0101ori perspective. Firmly rooted in kaupapa M\u0101ori, Te Tokotoru was formed out of the necessity to convey important messages through music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their debut single, \u201cTe Hekenga,\u201d released in September 2023, speaks to a new generation of M\u0101ori navigating tikanga in the modern world. Produced by Troy Kingi and recorded at Surgery Studios by Lee Prebble, the track serves as an anthem for those preserving and growing Te \u0100o M\u0101ori.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In November 2024, Te Tokotoru released \u201cKa Whiua Ng\u0101 Ringa,\u201d a powerful waiata advocating for the preservation and revitalization of te reo M\u0101ori. The song, whose title translates to \u201cthrow hands\u201d or \u201cto fight,\u201d delivers a bold message underscored by the band\u2019s signature hard rock sound. This track was also produced by Troy Kingi, with recording and mixing by Lee Prebble at Surgery Studios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Te Tokotoru\u2019s commitment to integrating M\u0101ori whakaaro and tikanga into their music sets them apart, creating a unique and compelling soundscape that resonates with audiences both in Aotearoa and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
